Arbitration Case Ruling Between the Republic of the Philippines and China

On July 12, 2016, an arbitral tribunal constituted under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) adjudicating the Philippine case versus China in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) ruled overwhelmingly in favor of the PHILIPPINES, determining that major elements of China’s claim including its nine-dash line (now its 10 dash line in their recent claim), and the land reclamation, installation of military bases in the WPS is a direct violation of the Philippines sovereign rights and of the UNCLOS ruling.
